A MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER:
It is hard to believe it has been a little over a month since I arrived on property to serve as your Interim General Manager. I really appreciate the warm welcome I have received from the members I have had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with. I feel the pride the membership has in the club and the excitement there is around the many improvements that have been made and the continued plans to improve the club facilities and member experience.
As with so many businesses, we are faced with challenging times hiring staff in all areas, and I appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue our effects to hire staff. The volunteer support from the membership has been phenomenal. We had a few significant events on the books when I arrived, one being the Member/Guest Golf Tournament and with the help of members who stepped up and volunteered, they were all very successful events. I want to especially recognize and thank members Steve Francis, Jim Landreth, Mark and Carole Williams, Jo Vallone, Connie Christensen, and Dick Willis that I have worked with who have given so much of their time to make The WildeWood Club a better place for you and your families to enjoy.
The Back to School/End of Season event held on Sunday, September 26 was attended by over 300 members and guests. The most popular activities were the Bounce House and the pool. The Food and Ice Cream Trucks were a big hit and offered a variety of menu items. I had the Gyro, and it was outstanding. The weather was perfect, and it was an overall great event and a wonderful way to end the pool season.
In closing, I want to remind you that clubs are built by friends inviting their friends to join the club. If you know of someone who is interested in learning more about membership, please have them give me a call or provide me with their contact information and I will reach out to them. If you would like to invite them out to experience the club with you, let me know and I will be happy to extend them complimentary access to the club for the day.
Thank you for being a member!
Could September have been any better of a month? Cool mornings and sunny afternoons are the perfect combination for golf. With the cooler weather, it is time for us to start looking towards our Fall and Winter protocols. As the soil temperatures start to slowly dip into the 60’s our Bermuda grass will begin storing carbohydrates instead of using them for active growth.
For us this means we have fed them one more time on September 20 and we need to begin thinking about the Winter. We may still get a week or two of good growth but for the most part, the grass we have on the course now will be the grass that gets us to March. In turn, we all need to be conscious of fixing our ball marks, filling divots, and where we drive our cart. With our increase in rounds played this year and the added number of carts per round it will not take long for areas to start thinning out, especially where we enter and exit the cart path. The agronomy staff will be utilizing ropes, barriers, and signage to help alleviate these issues.
We were still a little warm in September to start over seeding the tees on 3, 16, and the range but the seed is here and with the 10-day forecast we will likely begin that the second week of October. As I mentioned last month, we will work with R.J. to limit the disruptions to play and the use of the range but there will be about 2 weeks after seeding that we will need to get creative with a few tee placements and/or block the range for a short period of time each day. We certainly appreciate your cooperation. The first week of the month we will apply our first of 3 Fall pre-emergent applications to help prevent our Fall and Winter weeds. As well this month you can also expect to see our pink flags on the course in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
As always, I would like to thank everyone for the continued support and look forward to seeing you all on the course. If there’s ever any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at Grayson@thewildewoodclub.com.
