NEWSLETTER by Mike Biscotti, General Manager on November 1, 2021

A MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER:

The fall is my favorite time of the year. I enjoy the cool crisp mornings and the comfortable day time temperatures. It is a great time for outdoor activities, so come on out and enjoy the golf course, tennis facilities and the playground area with your family.

Improving the facilities has been and will continue to be a top priority.

  • Work has begun to renovate the course restrooms
  • The work has started to repair the wood rot around all the windows in the clubhouse
  • The renovation of the grill, locker rooms and the pro shop will start in December. During renovation our food and beverage service will move to the Tennis Center and offer a limited menu as well as bar service. The pro shop will be relocated upstairs to the ballroom once we get through a busy December event schedule. If it is necessary to move the pro shop sooner, then check in for golf will be moved to the Tennis Center for a few weeks. We realize this will be an inconvenience but know you will be very pleased with the finished product once the renovation is complete
  • The resurfacing of the pool deck will begin this week and will be completed prior to pool season

We closed out the month of October with our annual Trunk or Treat event and it was very successful. We had 27 members volunteer to decorate their vehicles and handout candy. I want to give a special thanks to Connie Christensen, Lori Christensen, Jo Vallone, Lentz Ivey and Heather Heuman for volunteering their time and hard work preparing and executing this wonderful community event.

We have a few special members events schedule for the month of November.

  • Women’s 18 hole scramble on Thursday, November 11. Please contact Sue Keaney at suekeaney@hotmail.com if you are interested in playing.
  • Tennis Member/Member, November 13 & 14.
  • Senior Club Championship, November 13 & 14.

The continued growth of our membership is very important to the long-term success of the club. Clubs are built by friends inviting their friends to join the club. If you know of someone who is interested in learning more about membership, please have them give me a call or provide me with their contact information and I will reach out to them. If you would like to invite them out to experience the club with you, let me know and I will be happy to extend them complimentary access to the club for the day.

Thank you for being a member!

Golf Course News:

October was a tournament heavy month for us in the agronomy department that went by like a blur.  It was great to see so many guests on the course and receive the positive feedback.  Though we still have a lot to accomplish, it is always a moral boost for the guys to hear from people who may not have seen the course since the change in ownership.

We applied our first of three fall/winter pre-emergent applications as well as our first of many rounds of Ryegrass seed on the driving range tee, entrance way and holes 3 and 16 tees.  We will continue to re-seed these areas all winter as play chews them up.  Also, in October we raised our mowing heights to where they will be for the offseason.  I know there are currently a few areas of rough that might seem a little thick, but rest assured it will all start to mat down once we receive our first frost.  We invested a lot into getting the turf to fill in and thicken up this first year and even though we still have some thin areas I am very pleased with the amount of grass we have going into our first sub 40 degree evening this week.  With these lower temperatures it is imperative that we spread out our cart traffic.  It won’t take long to wear the grass out, especially coming and going onto the path around tees and greens.  We will continue to move our stakes and ropes to direct traffic but ask for your help as well.

This month you can expect to see us starting to re-claim much of our overgrown property lines.  This will be a slow process that will begin with us bushhogging as much as possible initially before we come back thru with the chainsaws and cut back things that were too big for the mower.  We will do our best to limit noise around play.  The window for our second application of Specticle pre-emergent herbicide falls somewhere between the second and third week of the month and will hopefully help us stay a head of the poa annua we experience last winter.  We will also begin re-distributing sand in the bunkers.  This will mean some days they may not all get raked as we keep the sandpro pushing sand in whichever bunkers we are working that day.

Personally, I am excited for the cooler temperatures, frost, and transition back into project work.  As always, I look forward to seeing you all on the course.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns!
