NEWSLETTER by Bart Wolfe, PGA General Manager on June 1, 2021

Dear Wildewood Members,

SOCIAL UPDATE

Our Summer Kickoff Party was a rousing success with an estimated 1,100-1,200 members in attendance. I would like to thank the club’s owners for supporting this event and the following people for planning and running the event:

Social Committee – Jo Vallone, Connie Christensen, Heather Heumann, Ruth Griebenow, Jennifer Abrams, David Knight, and Ryan Alexander. RJ Catarino and his golf staff. Bill Simpson and his tennis staff. Grayson Clark and his maintenance staff. Latanya Lavant and her food and beverage staff. Braedon Loper and his pool staff. Brandon Dixon for getting the pool ready for the opening. Our Member volunteers.

FRIDAY DINNERS

The Club will start hosting a Friday night dinner each month starting in June. The date, menu, and pricing for the June dinner will be announced this week.

POOL AND PLAYGROUND

The Pool is open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm daily through September. Lifeguards are scheduled Friday through Sunday and holidays. There will be an attendant on duty from 10:00 am – 8:00 pm. All members are required to check-in when they enter the pool area.

Our new swing set will be installed this week at the playground. Fencing and landscaping to tie in the playground and the pool will start in June. We had hoped to have this finished by the pool opening but the delay in the completion of the Splashpad pushed this back.

TEE TIMES:

Full Golf Members may book tee times up to 14 days in advance. We encourage members to make tee times well in advance (especially on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays) as The WildeWood Club has 315 Full Golf Members as of June 1.

Tennis/Social/HOA Members may book tee times up to 7 days in advance for the 6 rounds per year you are allowed to play.

All players must check-in at the pro shop before going out to play. This allows the pro shop staff to inform all players of the daily rules and helps with the pace of play. Please do not head to the first tee without checking in to the pro shop.

RECIPROCAL ROUNDS:

Reciprocal rounds at other clubs can booked no earlier than 72 hours in advance of the tee time.

PRACTICE FACILITIES:

The WildeWood practice areas are for Full Golf Members and their daily guests only. Tennis/Social/HOA Members may use the practice facilities on the days they pay to play one of their 6 allotted rounds per year.

DRESS CODE:

Appropriate golf attire must be worn at all times. Jeans, athletic shorts, swim shorts, sweatpants, sandals, t-shirts, and sleeveless shirts are not allowed at any time on any area of the WildeWood golf course and practice facility.

All players 21 years old and younger must have their shirts tucked in at all times.

We do not require adults over the age of 21 to tuck in their shirt but we would greatly appreciate it if they would do so as it is typically mandated for all levels of play in the world of golf. Thank you to all the members that do this already!

COURSE ETIQUETTE REMINDERS:

Please be on time for your tee time and check-in at the pro shop before heading to the first tee.

Please call the golf shop if you need to cancel your tee time.

Please use the 2 sand bottles on the cart to fill in your divots in the fairways/rough.

Please leave the 2 green towels in your cart upon the completion of play.

Please return your golf cart to the cart path near the tee boxes and when approaching the green.

Golf carts must remain on the path on all Par 3’s.

All golfers must ride 2 players per cart. Single carts are no longer allowed.

The rakes have been returned to the sand traps. All bunkers are still played as LIFT, CLEAN, and PLACE and raking is optional. Please smooth the sand out with your feet after your shot if you choose not to rake.

Please be sure to tap your shoes with your club when exiting the bunker to remove excess sand and help prevent “sand-footprints” on the greens.

Please allow faster players/groups to play through if there are open holes ahead in front of you.

Please be courteous to other players and limit your range session to an hour or less on busy days. This will allow all golfers to utilize the practice facilities prior to play.

The WildeWood golf staff would like to personally thank all the members that do these things every day!

REMINDERS TO WILDEWOOD NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS:

Walkers, dog walkers, bike riders, and personal golf carts are not allowed on the golf course from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm.

All pets must be on a leash at all times. Please pick up after your pet.

Please do not leave any trash/pet trash on the golf course. All trash needs to be put into designated trash cans.

Walkers, dog walkers, bike riders, and personal cart riders assume all risk when on the golf course property.

Personal carts are only allowed on the course when traveling to and from the club. Joyriding is not allowed at any time.

FISHING IS NOT ALLOWED AT ANY OF THE LAKES ON THE GOLF COURSE AT ANY TIME. Parents, please share this message with your children.

Please know these guidelines are in place for players’ and residents’ safety and to protect the golf course. Our staff works tirelessly to make this club better each and every day and we appreciate your cooperation by following these guidelines.

The WildeWood Club golf staff would like to thank all its members for a great turnout last Saturday! We had a great time and we hope you and your family did too! We are looking forward to a great summer of golf. Hope to see you soon!

Director of Golf Operations

MAINTENANCE UPDATE

May was a second incredibly dry month for us here at the Wildewood Club with just over 2 inches the first 2 weeks and no measurable rainfall since May 13th

Our irrigation system has been running overtime, pumping water between 12 and 14 hours daily depending on play and though we’re moving close to 400,000 gallons a day we’re still seeing our areas of poor or no coverage and areas where our heads may not be working up to par.

We have changed 15 heads this month and have another 8 on order to continue to fix problems as they arise. We have also been spraying greens regularly, and tees/fairways as dry spots appear, with a wetting agent to help hold and manage moisture.

In April we also saw some desiccation of a few spots on some of our greens. These areas, already weakened, typically on the walk-on sides of greens and on our slopes exposed to more wind and the low humidity of Spring were damaged by a foliar disease.  These areas have been receiving extra fertilizer and we are looking forward to plugging and aerating these areas to encourage new growth.

Speaking of aerification, we are tentatively scheduled to start July 5th

As always greens are the priority, but we will try to get as much accomplished as both time and weather allow.
