March 2021 Newsletter
NEWSLETTER by Bart Wolfe, PGA General Manager on March 1, 2021
Dear WildeWood Club Members,
CAPITAL PROJECTS UPDATE
The great weather this week allowed for substantial progress in the installation of our new Splashpad. This project is expected to be completed within the next 1-2 weeks.
DRIVING RANGE RENOVATION
Our Driving Range Renovation will begin on Monday, March 8th. The range will be closed for two to three weeks while the renovation work is being completed. The renovation includes adding one new target green, installation of a synthetic tee on the back portion of the range tee, leveling the three tiers into one tier to dramatically increase the available hitting areas.
We have reached out to some of the local clubs to see if we can get access to their practice facilities while we are closed. If we are successful, we will send out a notice to the membership.
The lines have been trenched to run Natural Gas to our Firepits. Natural Gas is safer and more cost-effective than the Propane tanks that we used this winter.
STADIUM COURTS REST SHELTER
The Rest Shelter we ordered for the Stadium Courts has shipped. The contractor will install the shelter soon after it arrives.
The concrete pad for our dumpster has been poured this week. The dumpster will be placed back into the enclosure on Thursday. I would like to thank Paige Easley for volunteering to paint the new enclosure in our WildeWood green.
GHIN HANDICAP SYSTEM
The $35 annual fee for the GHIN Golf Handicap service was charged in February. The fee will appear as a Service charge on your March 1st statement. Golf Handicaps will be required to play in the events on our 2021 tournament schedule. If you would like to be added to the handicap system, please see RJ in the pro shop.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS TO ALL GOLFERS:
Our maintenance staff is working hard to reshape and resod many of the around the bunkers on the course. We politely ask that all golfers do their utmost to not disturb or damage these areas.
Please be courteous to other golfers and limit your range time to one pyramid/one hour on busy days (especially Friday, Saturday, Sunday). This allows for as many members as possible to use the practice facilities.
We strive to keep all members safe and healthy. We aim to provide single carts to members whenever possible. However, due to the high volume of play Friday-Sunday, we ask that all players ride 2 per cart. With over 300 full golf members, we want all members that wish to play to be able to do so.
CART PATH ONLY daily updates are sent by email. Please make sure to check the email associated with your member account on cold/wet days for these updates. We aim to send these emails out by 7:00 am when necessary.
Please make sure to be ON TIME and CHECK-IN for your tee time before going out to play.
Jeans, gym shorts, sweatpants, work out shirts, cut off shirts, and sandals are not allowed at any time on the WildeWood golf course or practice facilities. All shirts must have a collar. Members are responsible for informing their guests of our dress code policies.
WILDEWOOD RESIDENTS/WALKERS/DOG WALKERS:
WALKERS AND DOG WALKERS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE WILDEWOOD GOLF COURSE FROM 8:30 AM TO 5:30 PM. THIS IS DONE FOR YOUR SAFETY AND FOR THE ENJOYMENT OF THE PLAYERS. THE WILDEWOOD GOLF COURSE IS A DANGEROUS PLACE TO WALK WHEN THERE ARE 100 TO 120 PLAYERS HITTING GOLF BALLS ALL OVER THE COURSE THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
Please pick up after your pet. Please make sure to throw pet waste bags into a trash can. Please do not leave them on the ground. We have had several instances of bags of pet waste being left on the ground in different areas of the golf course. We thank you for helping us to keep litter off the golf course.
Please do not allow your dog to walk near any TEES, GREENS, OR BUNKERS. This helps to prevent any unnecessary damage to the golf course.
State law requires all pets must be on a leash when walking on the golf course or in the WildeWood neighborhood.
- Please wear face masks while inside the tennis center. Once downstairs, you may take it off to play tennis.
- Please remember to sign in and pay for all guests BEFORE you go on court.
- Please sign in when playing indoors, and as always be respectful of ending your session promptly when others are waiting for their court!
- Please reserve a court through reservemycourt.com BEFORE going onto a court. *if you have any issues reserving a court, we would be happy to reserve one for you! You can reach us at the Tennis Center at 803.

Tennis Court Maintenance
As the weather is finally warming up, we are going to have to add more clay to all of our clay courts. We will do this with our USTA home schedule in mind, but on days that we close one court, that court will be closed for 24 hours. Please do not go on a court unless you check www.reservemycourt.com first as a court may look playable but is in fact down for maintenance.
To say February was a wet month would be an understatement, in our line of work we certainly appreciate a good rainstorm but much more so in the growing months than the winter. 3 of our 4 closed Mondays and 15 of the 28 days were rain days.
I know there was some disappointment about the number of cart path only days but please know it is not a decision that RJ and myself take lightly. The added cart traffic from single riders, dormant grass, and over 6.5 inches of rain made for some very thin turf in areas that we need to protect until we can get into growing season again.
Due to the weather conditions, we were not able to complete all the projects we would have liked to in February but we will continue working diligently though March to try and get caught up before mowing season arrives in April.
We were able to get our Spring pre-emergent sprayed and get most of the exposed bunkers sodded. We will have another sod delivery the first week of March to finish up 18 green side.
Our goal for March will include the root pruning that we were unable to do in February, complete the renovation of the driving range tee, and our course wide fertilization on March 8th.
We look forward to the longer, warmer Spring days and seeing you all on the course.
WILDEWOOD SWIM TEAM
The WildeWood Club will field a swim team again in 2021. A registration form and more details will be sent out in the next two weeks.
At this time, The Columbia Swim League plans to have a competitive season this year with meets on Monday & Thursday afternoons. This could change due to Covid-19.
